Yeshayahu Twenty-Four: Sadness

God is going to scatter all of the inhabitants of the land. Everyone is going to be impacted by this new reality. “And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest, as with the slave, so with his master, as with the maidservant, so with her mistress, as with the buyer, so with the seller, as with the lender, so with the borrower, as with the creditor, so with the one who owes him (Isaiah 24:2).” Every facet of society is given the same fate, no matter what their previous circumstances had been. The formerly rich are just as exiled as the poorest of the poor. Everything is despondent at this point. “They joy of the drums has stopped, the stirring of merrymakers has ceased, the joy of the harp has stopped (Isaiah 24:8).” It’s like the whole world is plunged into sadness, and there’s no way out of it.
