Yeshayahu Twenty-Seven: Leviathan

“On that day, the Lord shall visit with His hard and great and strong sword on leviathan the barlike serpent, and upon leviathan the crooked serpent, and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea (Isaiah 27:1).” What an incredible, fantasy-style visual. It’s an image of an other-worldly beast, that only God seems to be capable of destroying. Is this a mythical legend from the ancient Near East? Or is there really something undiscovered somewhere in the sea, just waiting below the surface?
