Zechariah Five: Scroll

“And I returned, and I lifted my eyes and saw – and behold! – there was a flying scroll (Zechariah 5:1).” As a general note, if scrolls and books start taking flight, I will duck, but am also totally on board because it sounds great. As it turns out, this scroll is giant, and lays out a curse that may come forth on the land due to the transgressions of the people. These chapters are confusing, without any sort of real narrative arc. I know that’s an issue that’s going to continue with the psalms over the next several months, so I’m trying to get used to seeing each chapter on its own, while remembering the greater context that it comes in.
