“Come, my beloved, let us go out to the field, let us lodge in the villages (Song of Songs 7:12).” One of the most exciting things about being in a relationship with someone is getting to see a whole new world as you get to know them. When I first started dating my husband, I not only got to know him, but also had the opportunity to explore whole parts of Israel that I had never seen before. We would spend weekends driving around the North visiting his extended family, and I truly fell in love with the rolling hills and valleys of the Galil and the Golan. That’s what this verse made me think of, because the time that we spent on kibbutzim was honestly the most exposure to fields I’d had (city girl right here), and it was such a blessing to be able to connect with this whole part of the world that I would never have felt such a bond to otherwise. Part of love is embracing the adventure, wherever it takes us.
